Following her visit with U.S. President-Elect Donald Trump at his Florida resort, Alberta Premier Danielle Smith said Albertans should expect the incoming president to follow through on his plan to implement blanket tariffs on Canadian exports. She says this could prompt the province to fall into deficit and threaten Canada’s national unity. But there are ways Canadians can act now to protect their investments and mitigate negative impact to their portfolios. According to Stephen Johnston, a private equity manager and director of Omnigence Asset Management, there are some Canadian industries and investments that could benefit from Trump’s proposed tariffs.
